Weeds - emboss resist, shaped card

In every garden, we determine which are flowers (desired) and which are weeds (things to be removed).  But many weeds do become flowers when we get to know them. My shaped card features stamps from Impression Obsession and embossing resist with Distress maker.

Putting It Together

When I was looking for a sentiment to go with the resist background, I fixated on the Eeyore quote. When we bought a house a few years ago, we inherited the garden someone else had planted and a subsequent owner had mostly neglected. We have gone through several rounds of "is this a weed or a flower" while my sweetie has been taming it and adding flowers and other plants.

I found this Cover-A-Card stamp in a Goodwill for $5! Of course, I snapped it up. I used the background stamp to cover a panel with a slightly sparkly dark blue embossing powder.

The full panel with the embossing heat set.

I used Distress markers to add colour to the panel.

The embossing resists the waterbased ink

I laid a wet wipe over the panel and pressed it over the ink to lift some.

I had used a rainbow of markers for the colouring.

As one last touch, I used a Distress Sprayer to mist and drip water on the panel. After letting the water sit about a minute, I dabbed it up with a dry cloth.

The water treatment changes the colours in different ways.

I decided I wanted to have a slightly shaped card. I used the largest of this set to cut the cardbase making sure the card fold was below the cutline of the die.

This gives me a card base in the shape of the die on 3 sides.

I die cut the green foiled cardstock with the same die as the card base and the flower panel with a smaller one. I dry fit the sentiment to find a placement.

I used a smaller die of the set to cut a vellum panel and stamped it with green Stazon. Vellum is slick. Most other inks will smear. I used vellum for the sentiment because anything solid looked too 'heavy'. Vellum is translucent.

Inside, I used scrap from the die cut on the panel, shaping the corners with a corner rounder punch. I like adding a bit of colour or detail on the inside related to the front. I stamped the sentiment in the same green, too.
