Baby - Distress marker

Rock-a-bye-baby nestled in the embrace of Mama.  My card features a stamp from Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps coloured with a single Distress marker and waterbrush.

Putting It Together

As I was falling asleep last night, the idea for this card started swirling in my head. Each time I woke up, I was thinking about it. So, since my sweetie got up before me and fed the cat when I got up I could go directly to my craftroom to create.

I stamped the long retired Kraftin' Kimmie image on lightweight watercolour paper and used just one Distress marker and waterbrushes to colour the baby elephant and mama's trunk.

I used a Spellbinders die to trim the image and another slightly larger to cut a white glittered matte. I did a dry fit with Baby paper, a ribbon, and the idea of using the same white glittered cardstock as a matte. Since I wasn't making this for a specific person, I was aiming for a gender neutral card. The white glittered cardstock is a subtle bit of sparkle around the elephant and the patterned paper. The matting also adds rigidity to the lighter weight papers.

I didn't want to cut a new sheet of the glittered cardstock and the remainder of the sheet I have been using wasn't big enough to matte the full card, so I cut strips instead and adhered them around the card. Along with cutting out the centre of a matte, using strips where it won't be noticeable are great ways to stretch your specialty cardstock.

I cut the ribbon to go all the way around the patterned paper and used washi tape to join the ends but leave it free to move. This lets me position it after it's around the paper. Adhering the matte and/or adhering it to the card base locks it in place.

I added the baby matted baby paper to a white cardbase. I added foam mounting tape to the bottom of the elephants to give it a little dimension. To finish the card, I added three sparkly enamel dots from Doodlebug.

Inside, I used a long retired stamping wheel from Stampin' up for a whimsical detail as well as a strip of the baby paper. I finished with a sentiment from the Kraftin' Kimmie set.
