Pirate Birthday - watercolour pencil

Arrrr! Pirate teddy bear wishing you a happy birthday! My card features a Bugaboo digital stamp with a die-cut foam sentiment, paper from Doodlebug, and More and Galore buttons.

Putting It Together

I had coloured this image last month and tucked it in my stash. Colouring a variety of images ahead of time when I can squeeze them in makes it quicker to make cards or other things.

I used Prima watercolour pencils and a waterbrush on the bear while I was at lunch at my day job.

When I decided to use him on a card, I found a die that would fit him and would be good for the project.

I also die cut a sentiment from fun foam. Usually, I use fun foam to pop-up cardstock, but this time I decided to use it alone, to have its own texture on the card as well as the dimension.

For the background, I used a patterned paper from Doodlebug featuring sailboats for a nautical theme. I put them all on a white card base and popped up the image with foam mounting tape.

I decided to add some shell buttons to the card, keeping with the nautical/ocean theme.

Inside, for a bit of whimsical detail, I stamped Pirate-y sentiments and elements leaving plenty of space for a personal sentiment.

  1. What a great card, Kate! I love the colours. What a good idea to have a stash of pre-coloured images. Clearly that comes in handy when designing a card. Love that background paper and those shell buttons. The little pirate is simply adorable. Thanks so much for joining our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.
