For my inspiration card, I used Staedler coloured pencils and Nuvo glitter markers to colour the shy fairy and then embellished her with die cuts, a background made with a gel plate, and Nuvo gemstones.

Putting It Together

Sandra, the artist behind Babycakes, has rather unique and quirky images.

I printed the image on Bristol and coloured her using Staedler coloured pencils and Nuvo glitter markers. I got the pencils recently at a garage sale sponsored by a local scrapbooking store. I'm kind of obsessed with getting different types of pencils and other mediums. I used the glitter markers with a waterbrush, first scribbling the marker on a bit of plastic packaging and then picking up the colour with the brush to work as a glittery watercolour. I used Wild Lavender, Strawberry Bonbon, Iced Americano, and Glinda the Good, which is exclusive to Scrapbooking Made Simple.

I trimmed the image with a scalloped oval die from CC Designs and did a dry fit on an A2-sized panel with another scalloped oval as a mat and a framing die from Ultimate Crafts.

I decided to use a background I had made while on a Crafternoon with a friend a few months ago. I used a gel plate with Simon Says Stamp hybrid ink and a strip of mylar that had been used to cut sequins for texture.

I cut the frame from heavy black and gold foiled cardstock and the matting oval from glitter cardstock. I trimmed the background and did one more dry fit to make sure it all fit.

To offset my black frame inward from the gold, I snipped a small bit from the top, bottom, and sides.

I used a corner rounder punch on the background and then glued the black pieces to the gold before adhering them to the background.

I added everything to a white A2 cardbase then embellished the corners with Nuvo gemstones, Amethyst Squares.

Inside, I used the flourishes from the frame die to add a bit of detail.
