Popcorn and a Movie - watercolour pencil, box

One of my favourite summer activities is binging movies. It's a great way to stay out of the heat from the sun and in a cool shady location. So, I made a popcorn box for holding popcorn with a binge-watching, popcorn-munching girl as the perfect pairing for a movie night. The box features a Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps set coloured with Nuvo watercolour pencils, and two Spellbinders die sets. What summer movie do you want to watch first?

Putting It Together

I found the popcorn paper at a garage sale sponsored by a local scrapbooking sale. I got the popcorn box die for my birthday last February with the Big Shot Plus. The release of this adorable stamp seems to be made for the both of them.

I stamped the binging Buffy on lightweight watercolour cardstock with a light grey ink and took it to work with me.

At lunch, I used Nuvo watercolour pencils and waterbrushes to colour the image. I use a brush roll to hold my pencils so I can take them with me. Each pencil is in its own slot to keep it safe. I have another pouch which has my pencil sharpener and a few miscellaneous tools (which are also safe for going on airplanes). The devices under the pencils are some of the ones I work with. They're industrial mobile router-like gateways, I test the software.

Closer view of the coloured image. I later added a little Uniball white to her eyes to give them more life.

Prior to colouring the image, I made the popcorn box. I used a steel rule die to cut the paper,

and assembled the box.

I dry fit the stamp on the box as soon as I got it. It's a little larger than the box for the bottom, but I was sure this wasn't going to be an issue. I thought to myself that I could just wrap the side.

I was originally going to fussy cut the image, but decided I would lose too many of the fun details like the popcorn spilling out and the shoes kicked off. So, I changed my mind and decided to trim the image with a die cut. After die cutting, while the panel was flat, I stamped it with the sentiment.

I positioned the image panel where I wanted it and held it in place with removable adhesive. I flipped the box on its face and traced the edges on the back of the image panel.

I used a bone folder to score the lines.

And folded the panel sides to wrap around the box.

I dry fit the folded panel and it fit perfectly.

I die cut movie theme bits from glittered cardstock to go on the sides.
