Red, White, and Blue Christmas - embossing with stencil, Prismacolor pencils

If you're going to make a Christmas card at the beginning of July, you might as well make it red, white, and blue.  ;-)

My tall, thin card features a cute Newton's Nook kitty coloured with Prismacolor pencils and embossed Simon Says stamp stencil.

Putting It Together

When several challenges asked for Red, White, and/or Blue, my thoughts turned to Christmas *laugh* I've been looking for a project to use this fun stencil again and to use this fun Newton's Nook set I got a few months ago. To accommodate the stencil, I made a long, thin card, 6" x 3 1/2".

I sprayed the stencil with removable adhesive and adhered it to the dotty background paper. Then I squished the Versamark pad directly on the paper through the stencil.

I carefully removed the stencil and poured on embossing powder.

Then I heat set the embossing powder.

After I trimmed the embossed panel, I dry for the kitty stamp tho check my idea would work.

I stamped the cutie kitty hanging on the candy cane with archival ink on Bristol.

I coloured with Prismacolor pencils, keeping track off the pencils used. My white kitty got a little greyer than I intended. I still need to withhold on white shading.

I fussy cut the image leaving a tiny margin.

For a fun bit of dimension, I used a snow marker for fluffy accents on the hat. Ewhile the marker is heat set, it puffs up wonderfully.

I added Wink of Stella to the candy cane for a subtle sparkle and shine.

To add in a bit more blue, I decided to add foiled matting to the sides. I cut two narrow, 1/2" x 6" strips of foiled cardstock and dry fit everything. For the card base, I cut a strip 12 inches by 3 1/2 inches, scored, and folded it to make a 6 inch by 3 1/2 inch card to accommodate the stencilled background.

I adhered the foiled strips to the sides of the stencilled panel and trimmed the tops. The strips are 1/2" inch wide to make them easier to align and adhere.

I used foam mounting tape on the kitty to give him dimension to stand out even more from the background.

Inside, I added a sentiment and some candies stamped in red and blue.
