Daisy Love box - Through the Craftroom Door with Prismacolor pencil, mixed media

This week's sponsor for the Through the Craftroom Door blog challenge is Lucy Sunshine.

Heather valentin is a lady who breathed art her entire life. She was drawing as soon as she could hold a crayons . Guided by her farther. She found her truest joy in drawing and painting, in a BA in arts. Heather made her way in th world by creating original drawings and installations for various global companies / corporations for advertisement and display purposes .
Heather true love has always been creating her original copyrighted characters and sharing them with her appreciative public. Her beloved characters are recognizable worldwide her signature eyes, and drawing style mostly featuring mismatched clothing and characters from days gone by. Making people smile with her art is heather's greatest joy.

For my project, I used Daisy Love Buggmee to create a whimsical box using Prismacolor pencils, Distress paint, stain, and ink, Perfect Pearls, and dies from Spellbinders, Stampin' Up, and We R Memory Keepers.

The Through the Craftroom Door challenge is always Anything Goes. The prize this week is three images from Lucy Sunshine. Come play with us and show us your own projects.

Putting It Together

When I start to work on a project, I rarely have finished product in mind. I let the project itself guide me.

While I was printing the image on Canson Bristol paper, I got to thinking about items in my stash. I thought about a circle box I got last summer. I sized the printed image with the largest of the circle dies in my We R Memory Keeper's set.

I fit the dies on the box, too. I bought the box last summer at one of the garage sales sponsored by local scrapbooking stores. Inside the big one are two smaller ones. The largest of the boxes fit the same circle die that fit around the printed image. The largest of all the dies in the set is just a nudge too big for the box.

I coloured the image using Prismacolour pencils. I use a slated lightbox as an easel while I am colouring to make it easier on my back and neck.

I used the die to trace a soft pencil line around the outside. This gives me a guide to know how far I need to colour to be within the cut line.

I used Gelly Roll metallic pens and a white Uniball gel pen to add accents to the image. While I colour, I keep track of the pencils used. That's a heck of a list. I keep track so I refer to it later and use the same blends on a future project. I die cut the image using the second smallest of the dies and die cut a purple matte with the largest. I ended up not using the purple matte on the box top.

I dry fit the image on the box top to make sure it was going to fit.

I used gesso on the exterior of the box since the paper mache sucks up water which makes painting difficult.

I traced the inner edge of the die on the box lid. Since it would be covered by the image, no need to paint it. I painted the lid with Blueprint Sketch Distress paint and then went over that with Chipped Sapphire Distress stain to darken the blue.

Since I had that area to be covered, I decided to use it to check colouring ideas for the bottom.  Twisted Citron over Cracked Pistachio was a bit too yellow, but Cracked Pistachio alone was almost exactly the same colour I did the background on the image. I added a spray of Sour Apple Perfect Pearls Mist and voila.

I used the Cracked Pistachio paint on the box bottom and then sprayed it with the Sour Apple mist. I also sprayed it lightly with Gold Perfect Pearls mixed with water. Seeing the sparkle, I sprayed Confetti White Perfect Pearls mixed with water on the blue of the lid.

Since I decided against matting, I rimmed the edge of the image disc with Memento Brilliance  Galaxy Gold.

The thin gold on the edge finishes the image disc nicely. I set it aside to dry, avoiding touching the pigment ink.

I die cut a border from the Stampin' Up Flourish thinlets from Core'dinations white pearl cardstock to try on the lid. I liked the look so cut 2 more.

If you don't have a pick for your dies, you can use a toothpick to poke out all the bits and release the paper. For some dies, I keep all the little bits if I think I can use them on a future project.

I used washi tape to hold the die cuts on the lid so I could find the right placement in a dry fit. If you do this, use tape with very low tack, that's not very sticky, so you don't ruin the die cut or the painted surface.

I used Tombow glue pen on the die cuts and fit them around the lid. To fill the gaps, I added large purple gems from Kaisercraft.

I dry fit the image disc one last time to see if I needed anything more and was pleased with it as is.

I added Tombow Mono liquid adhesive to the back of the disc, laid it in place, and used a brayer to smooth it down and firmly adhere it.

Now to the bottom...
I wanted flowers on the bottom so I looked through my stash of dies and things. None of my single flowers felt right but the grassy border with flowers of the Spellbinders Flower Field sparked my interest. I decided I wanted to use the same white pearl paper as I did for the lid die cuts, but didn't want to have them white. I used  Clarity Brush and Cracked Pistachio ink to add just a touch of that green. I left the overlays for the flowers white.

I dry fit one to see if I liked it and also to figure out how many more I would need. Again, I used washi tape to hold the dry fit in place. I  cut 4 more and the overlay.

After I adhered all the die cuts using Tombow glue pen, I added yellow Hero Arts gems to the flowers.

And that finished the box, well, at least the outside. I'll be lining the inside with dark green velvet to finish the box. For the pictures, I just laid the velvet in loose.
