Princess Birthday - Copic, die cutting

Pretty pretty Princess with her frog price graces my fairytale inspired card using stamps from Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps and die cuts from Spellbinders and others. The princess and her frog are coloured with Copics.

Putting It Together

This project unintentionally became a collection of several retired products. In my defence, they go together well. I got the Kraftin' Kimmie stamp as part of her most recent "rubbah party" selling off a stamp stash uncovered in her continuing effort to tidy up her Kave.

As part of last month's daily colouring challenge for Kraftin Kimmie Stamps Facebook group, I coloured up the princess with her frog prince using Copic markers.

I recently increased my stash of Copics when I bought several at a recent garage sale hosted by a local scrapbooking store. I went from a small handful (7) to around 50!! I now have a much broader variety of colours, too. I'm still a novice when it comes to alcohol markers, but now I can do some Copic only colouring vs mixing with the others in my stash.

I dry fit the princess with die cuts and a background paper. I wanted to matte the background with the gold foiled textured cardstock but discovered all I have left in my stash was a smallish rectangle, just a little bit shorter than the background pane. So, instead of a full matting, I cut strips.

I picked up several Spellbinder dies on a 'warehouse' sale with deep discount. Many of them are discontinued but still lovely. The carriage was one of these. I die cut the carriage from glittered cardstock. I also die cut a golden ball. I wanted to include a few elements of the Frog Prince tale from the Brothers Grimm on my card. The frog retrieved her golden ball from the well and when he was transformed back into a man, called for a carriage to take them away to his kingdom.

I decided the carriage needed a little definition so I used a blender tool with Aged Mohagony Distress ink to lightly ink up the embossing.

Adding the strips to the background really does save on using up the foiled paper. I need to plan a stop at Micheals to pick up some more of that particular foiled cardstock because it is rather pretty.

To give the princess's oval a bit of dimension, I used the same oval die to cut a piece of adhesive backed fun foam. I trimmed it a little so it would fully hide hiding the lacy oval which I had die cut from the vellum-like Media Mixage sheet. This is one of the discontinued items I will genuinely weep for when I have used it all up. I keep looking for a replacement.

I decided to use a kraft cardbase. I have significantly more of the heavy kraft cardstock than white (of which I am nearly out) and have discovered the kraft gives a nice dimension to a lot of layouts. I added pink rhinestones to the carriage and one to the princess as well.

Inside, I used Krafty Kolors to stamp the frog from another retired Kraftin' Kimmie set and a sentiment from a third. The frog I masked to be able to have the crown in yellow with the frog in gold. I stamped the frog on pearled cardstock and die cut him from a scalloped heart for a fun inside detail.

  5. It's so hard, isn't it, Rijacki, to use up those retired items with which we fell in love. Mind you, it's hard, too, keeping everything retired which I love and winding up with piles of "treasures". I'm so glad you found a way to use some of those retired treasures of yours. The princess and her carriage are gorgeous. Love the way you've separated the princess and her darling frog with that scalloped oval. The carriage really is more defined and elegant thanks to the sponged-on Mahogany Distress ink. And, bonus, you've continued the enchantment inside. Thanks so much for joining our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.
