Carolers - watercolour, die cutting

One of my favourite things about Christmas is the carols. I still love to sing even if my voice has gotten rusty over the years.

My card features a Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps set coloured with Daniel Smith watercolours, die cuts from Impression Obsession, Your Next Stamp, Spellbinders, and Elizabeth Craft Designs, and Christmasy paper from Graphic 45.

Putting It Together

The girls are two of the images I coloured for the Kraftin' Kimmie Facebook daily colouring challenge. I coloured them while at my day job when I was at lunch.

I used the stamps on a card base with foiled paper cut with the Impression Obsession die to do a dry fit of my idea.

I stamped the girls on watercolour cardstock and took them to work with me. I coloured them over two days using the Daniel Smith palettes from Simon Says Stamp. I love the vibrant colours.

The palettes with dried paint daubs are very transportable. I keep them in the plastic sleeve in my pouch and don't put them in the sleeve until they're dry. Then all I need to use them is a waterbrush. I am starting to run low on a couple of the colours so those are the ones I am likely to buy in tube form now that I know how much I like them. I'll "recharge" the palette by squeezing out a daub of paint into the same spot on the palette.

I used the stitched rectangles from Elizabeth Craft Designs to trim my girls. For the taller thin one, I did a double cut with the die to thin the rectangle.

I dry fit the girls with the background, the die cut, and a black card base.

I decided I wanted to have dimension on the die cut, so I cut some more and stacked them. I used a white gold cardstock from Neenah on top of 2 other cuts as the base. Stacking the die cuts also gives it more of a substantial feel and makes it easier to work with some of the floppier elements.

I then added the gold foiled cardstock on top of the stack offsetting it just a nudge to have a white-ish drop shadow to enhance the look.

I assembled the card with the die cut on top. I love how this turned out.

Inside, I used the sentiment from another Kraftin' Kimmie set on a panel of white pearl cut with a Spellbinders die. When I used a dark or black card base, I always like to have a white panel to make it easier to add a personal sentiment. I also added jingle bells cut with a Your Next Stamp die and a mercury glass paper.
