Adventure

A door hanger celebrating adventure and following one's dreams decorated on both sides.

Supplies

Putting It Together

My co-worker is retiring at the end of the month. She is a traveler and explorer who is embarking on a new adventure now that she won't be shackled by the bonds of daily work.

I found a template on the Internet, printed it out and cut it out.

I cut the door hanger core from card board that had been part of an emptied paper pad. I cut two, one for a future project.

I used Multi-Medium Matte to decoupage map patterned paper to the door hanger for the background.

For the curved areas, I cut slits to allow the paper to follow the curve.

The map covered door hanger looks great.

I stamped an image for each side. One image is an airplane for all the trips she will be taking. The other image is a kitty in a box for the kitty she has. I stamped the images on lightweight watercolour cardstock.

I used Distress Ink and Distress Stain and waterbrush to paint the images.

I fussy cut the images with narrow border all around since both images had some line details outside of the main part of the image. After fussy cutting, I decided to add black Enamel Accent to the outside of the goggles to give them a shiny look.

On one side I put the plane with a sentiment on a banner. I adhered both with foam mounting tape to give them dimension.

For the other side, I die cut a stitched square and I stamped the sentiment with Aegean Blue chalk ink. The sentiment stamp has "day!" on the last line, so I masked that so add my own final word "adventure" on purple glittery cardstock to tie into the colour of the pilot's scarf.
