Sew, What's New? - watercolour pencil, die cuts

Sew, what's new? These cute little mousies from House Mouse and Friends are stitching up on a shaped card featuring sewing related dies and stamps from Sizzix, Paper Smooches, Memory Box, Elizabeth Craft Designs, and We R Memory Keepers. The mousies are coloured with Nuvo watercolour pencils.

Putting It Together

I got an idea in my head and had to put it together. One of the challenges I follow specified a shaped card. That got me thinking about the embroidery hoop die to make a circle card. Thinking about sewing, I remembered the Tiny Tailor stamp in my stash and the idea began brewing.

While cropping and watermarking the images, I discovered I took fewer than I thought of the process. This was a fun card to put together.

I stamped the image with dark brown on watercolour paper and used watercolour pencils with a waterbrush to colour the image.

At first, I was considering colouring the image with Prismacolor pencil, but yesterday morning I picked up a package which included Nuvo watercolour pencils I ordered a few weeks ago. So, I decided to give them a try with this project. I am so glad I did. The Nuvo pencils are dreamy. They're almost as creamy as crayons and they move well with a little bit of water on the watercolour paper. The colours blend marvellously.

To make the shaped card, I took an A2 card base I made earlier from kraft. I thought the kraft would make a nice base with the hoop. I found the circle die which was almost the same size as the hoop and used it to shape the base.

After colouring the image I used a stitched square die to trim it, and I die cut the hoop from chipboard. I pulled in another sewing related stamp set from my stash and did a dry fit with the ideas.

I used Cosmic Shimmer, silver Viva Decor Inka Gold, and Distress Oxide to colour the hoop.  I decided to stamp the x-stitch stamped heart from Paper Smooches with multi-colour ink because it was a bit formless when I stamped it in black. I stamped the sentiment in black on pearled cardstock.

I used a Memory Box die to cut a needle from foiled cardstock and threaded it with a bit of baker's twine. I used foam mounting tape under the mouses and the sentiment. I also used Gelly Roll pens to add coloured tops to the pens that I silvered.

Inside, I used another stamp from the x-stitches to give a small detail in the multi-colour ink. I otherwise left it blank because it's not a large card and space for a personal handwritten sentiment is nice.
