Magic of Christmas - die cuts, embossing, watercolour

The warmth of family, peace, love, and joy are all the magic of Christmas.

This card features stamps by Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps, die cuts, embossing, and a touch of watercolour painting with Finetec micas.

Putting It Together

It's been a pretty busy week so I wanted to make a quick and easy card. Or at least relatively quick.

I decided to do a die cut card with an embossed sentiment focus. I did a dry fit with the card base and the dies and stamp I wanted to use.

I chose my papers, some of them scrap from other projects, and die cut all the pieces before dry fitting them again with the stamp. When I did the first dry fit, I didn't think about the deer being cut the opposite direction. I later did decide I liked the deer better on the right with the tree on the left.

I adhered the thin holly paper on the heavier mercury glass cardstock and then placed the tree and reindeer on that panel. I added foam mounting tape to the back of the panel and a few spots on the tree and deer where they extend from it. This gives the card a bit of dimension and holds the die cut bits up, too.

I added a bit of sparkly red and green ribbon that was part of packaging on a gift I got last year. I embellished the tree and the reindeer with gold cardstock scrap that I punched for a star and die cut just for the antlers. These I added with glue. The reindeer's scarf was part of the die set and I used scrap to cut it, too. I embossed the sentiment in gold on the holly paper. I used a textured gold cardstock to matte the plaid cardstock for a hint of sparkle.

Inside, I stamped the wreath and sentiment with black. I decided it looked a bit plain so added mica watercolouring to the wreath. I love how these two sentiments tie together.
