Floof!

A wonderful artist friend of mine, Lia, is beginning to make digital stamps. She has been making fantasy and anthropomorphic art for years. I suggested to her that her lovely style in line drawings would make great digis. I will admit, though, my suggestion to her was partly selfish because I have great desire to paint images like the the ones she makes *grin*

Floof is the first of Lia's images made as a digi. She sent it to me for me to show her what I could do with it in a physical form. I painted the image and a background with Distress Ink. Floof reminds me of border images in Medieval illuminations so I paired him with a Shakespeare quote sentiment stamp from Hero Arts and a sheet from Graphic 45 Enchanted Forest.

Lia is making her images available on Etsy, selling under the name HijikiDomo. She has just a few digis to start but will be adding more. The images will be anthropomorphic (personified animals or humanoid animals), fantasy (elves, dragons, unicorns, fairies, etc.), and other things that take her fancy. While most images will be family friendly, like Floof, others may be of a more mature nature. Ones which are not family friendly will be in their own special section

Putting It Together

Floof is a catbird, part bird and part cat, or a cat with bird wings.

I painted Floof's eyes first and then he watched me the whole time painting the rest of him. His eyes are Tumbled Glass.

I laid down Antique Linen over the whole image, except the eyes, to start with a pale base.

I used Walnut Stain on his ears and over all the lines then painted Tea Dye pulling the Walnut lines in as the start of the shadowing. When painting with Distress Ink, I smush the mini pads on my plastic work surface then use a waterbrush to pick up colour to apply to the image.

To paint the image I add color and then, with a clean wet waterbrush, I lift colour off. I'll do this several times while painting to build shadow or lighter areas.

I added several colours to build up the shadows and highlights.

I painted the wings in yellows as a contrast.

I painted on a background with Sullied Lilac and Seedless Preserves.

I added a matting of bronze foiled cardstock.

After stamping a quote from Shakespeare, I dry fit the image with paper from Graphic 45 Enchanted Forest.

I save the foiled cardstock for future uses, I die cut it as a frame for under the  patterned paper panel.

I glued the foiled card to the back of the patterned paper.

I added foam mounting tape to the back of the painted panel and its matting to have it raised over the patterned paper.

The image panel centered makes the patterned paper into a frame.

I used scrap of the patterned paper and foiled cardstock to embellish the inside of the card. I left it otherwise blank.
