Putting it Together

The closest I have ever been to Hawaii is the Tiki Room at Disneyland and countless pictures, but the black sand beaches have always intrigued me, so I decided to use one in my painting. I also love the colours of a sunset and chose to challenge myself to make one.

Because I wanted to use the At the Beach background with Leilani, I stamped her both on to scrap typing paper and watercolour paper. I fussy cut the typing paper and added removable adhesive to the back of it to cover the stamping on the watercolour paper.

I dry fit the position I wanted background before putting it on the stamper and inking it up.

After removing the masking, Leilani is in the foreground of the scene and ready to be painted.

I did the painting and card assemble at a local crop where I could paint in air conditioning while chatting with my friend, Betty. It was a nice afternoon.

The watercolouring is all Distress Inks. I now have sets 1-12 of the minis and absolutely love them.

To give the sand a 'sandiness', I remasked Leilani with the typing paper image and used Post-It notes to cover the other non-sand areas before flicking Black Soot and Antique Linen over the area which was previously painted with Weathered Wood and Pumice Stone.

I finished up with a matting of Stampin' Up cardstock, a lovely Bo Bunny Beach Therapy paper, and a sentiment from Fancy Flamingos.

Aloha! It's a summer sunset on the beach, something to dance about!
