The inspiration for this card were challenges to use the drapery fold, polka dots, and the absolutely adorable Tea Cup Fairy.

Putting it together
The leader of an online paper crafting group I am in gave a weekly challenge of using a drapery fold in a card and supplied a link to a video for the technique: https://goo.gl/6vqPaI. The technique uses two-sided patterned paper but none of the two-sided 12x12" papers I have matched the image I had in my head so I used 2 sheets back to back. Even then I changed which papers I used after trying the first fold. So, you'll see the papers change mid-way.
Frm the directions, cut a sheet 4x11.5" and score at 3, 4, 6, 7, 9. I use my cutter as my score tool, too.
This is the fold from the directions.
I like the drapery effect but the papers weren't right for what I envisioned for this card. I also wanted more folds. So I changed papers and adjusted the folds making the fold 3/4" instead of 1". Edit: I scored at 2.5", +3/4", +1.5", +3/4", +1.5", etc. Looking at the folds, though, I think a 2" snuck in toward the end.
I put the polka dot drapery on a rose background. There's adhesive on the back of the folds to hold the folds together.
I added silver dotted washi to the top of the drape to give it a finished look.
I stamped the teacup fair on the smooth side of the Bazzill avalanche white grasscloth cardstock and coloured it with Chameleon pens. The wings are touched with Wink of Stella. I paper pieced the teacup with the background paper and added shadowing. And then I fussy cut it.
To create the fairy's background doily, I used the Tonic Studios Victorian border punch. I saw someone else doing this and thought it was a good idea.
I dry-fit the elements to try to figure out how to add the sentiment.
To fit the KKS monthly layout, I wanted to add in a pair of flags with a sentiment. Dry-fitting for layout and colour.
I meant to have the teacup level but I accidentally tipped it and like it tipped. All done.

Love this card! And the tilted fairy is so cute, what was in her cup to make her tilt? Lol I've got to try adjusting the folds,I like the way it came out.
ReplyDeleteI started at 2.5", then added 3/4" then 1.5", then 3/4", then 1.5", etc. Looking at the picture, I think I flubbed on one of the long ones.
