Buzzy - Distress marker, embossing, stencilling

Busy as a buzzy bee but still here to wish you a happy birthday filled with "honey, kisses, and bee-utiful wishes". My card features stamps by Kraftin' Kimmie coloured with Distress marker on a double stencilled background with honey embossing using Emerald Creek Baked Texture. Bzzzt!

Putting It Together

Bzzzzt. Bzzzz, bzzzz, bzzzzz!

I stamped the bees with Yummy Yellow on watercolour cardstock.

I then used Distress marker with waterbrush to colour them with accents of Nuvo gold Aqua Shimmer on their wings and gel pen for their eyes.

I fussy cut the collection of beeeeees.

For the background, I started with a gel plate mono printing. I applied ink directly to the gel plate: Yummy Yellow with touches of Marvelous Mocha and Pumpkin Pie.

I laid the Beautiful Burlap stencil on the gel plate and dabbed ink away with a very wet wipe.

This leaves an amazing pattern of ink.

I then put a panel of paper down on the ink and smoothed it with my fingers. I wanted to have a rough look; using fingers instead of a brayer is not as smooth and even.

Ta-da, the printed panel. The touches of the brown and orange with the yellow are fabulous.

I then used another stencil by Honey Bee (so fitting that my honeycomb stencil is from Honey Bee) to apply Perfect Medium to the panel. Perfect Medium is stickier than Versamark which helps when using the Baked Texture embossing powder.

I heat set the first layer of the Vintage Beeswax and then, while it was hot, added more powder. I love the look of honey this embossing has.

I then applied more Perfect Medium to a couple edges.

I used Ancient Amber embossing for some distressing to finish the background.

I worried a bit that the cartoony bees might not look good on the background, so I did a dry fit with the bees to reassure myself they would look great.

So, I decided to add other elements. I used a My Favorite Things shaker die to cut hexagons from long-retired translucent gold paper (I am going to be heartbroken when I use the last of this paper) and found ribbon and flowers that felt 'right'.

I had decided to use the sketch from an Outlawz challenge as the base for my layout.

I adhered the background to a kraft card base and then added the translucent hexagons. The centre hexagon was the negative space from one of the frame hexagons.

I then added the rest using foam mounting tape to give the bees dimension for a happy buzzy card.

I used the other negative space hexagon stamped with a honeypot as a detail on the inside of the card along with sentiments in brown and yellow.
