Salvation

A Unicorn who sees himself and ugly and broken seeks the Wishing Fairy for her touch to give him Salvation. He needs to believe and it is possible for when you follow your dreams and believe in yourself all things are possible.

Salvation is a digital stamp by Lia Graf. The story of the drawing is hers, only slightly embellished by me. Salvation is available as a digital stamp from HijikiDomo. Lia has been making fantasy and anthropomorphic art for years and I recently convinced her to make some of her drawings available as digital stamps.

Putting It Together

My chosen medium is Distress Ink with waterbrush. For digital stamps, I first print out the image on lightweight watercolour cardstock then spray it with hairspray to help 'fix' the ink. This helps to prevent the printer ink from bleeding with the water medium. With this method, there is very little bleeding except with very wet applications and very fine detail with lots of thin lines.

I coloured/painted the image by smushing the mini pads on my worksurface and then using a waterbrush to pick up the ink. For this project, I also used Perfect Pearls for some shimmer on the wings, the backgrounds, and the Wishing Fairy's magic touch.

I decided to make the unicorn in smoky grey with a fiery mane and wooden for his broken horn. For the fairy, blues for her wings and hair with a purple overtone to her body. The background in the oval/circle (my resizing of the image made it more oval than circle) is blue and purple with shimmers of blue and white Perfect Pearls. Outside of the blue, the rest of the background is white Perfect Pearls.

I trimmed the panel and added a thin matting of simple black.

For the sentiment, a stamp from the Whimsical Gnomes set from Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps felt so appropriate. I embossed silver over black and rounded the corners of the tag: All things are possible if you believe. Both the painted panel and the sentiment tag are adhered directly to the top-opening card base.

For inside the card, I used a sentiment from Congrads! set from Your Next Stamp, one of my favourite sentiments. I dusted the inside of the card with a little Perfect Pearls to give it a little sparkle and tie in with the card front.
