Birthday Inlay

A cheerful glittery birthday card with die cuts that are inlaid for a smooth cool look. Now where's the cake?

Supplies

Putting It Together

This is a pretty simple card, die cut three different card stocks and piece them together like inlaid tile.

First, the layout. I wanted something pretty simple but still impactful. I chose a border die from Spellbinders, a motif from Impression Obsession, and a circle die to frame the motif from Lifestyle. To add to them, I chose a sentiment from a Stampin' Up set (one of the 2017 Sale-a-bration sets). I decided to have my circle motif on a layer above the rest of the card.

I die cut the circle from the first glitterstock and the birthday motif from both. I also cut a base circle from scrap white cardstock. I put adhesive on the base and added the first glitterstock. I then inlaid the 2nd's negative pieces for the cake background and decorations.

The finished cake motif.

For the card front, I die cut the border line in a white panel. Then, I put two lines of Scor-tape behind the die cut. I die cut the inlay colour and fit those pieces into the card face for a smooth single layer.

I'm missing a couple little dots, but those are directly behind the area where the motif will be.

I used foam mounting tape on the motif to pop it up and add some dimension. Alternatively, I could have cut a circle from the card from and inlaid the motif for a completely smooth look.
