Putting It Together

I'm on vacation visiting family in the US. I'm making cards in the hotel room when we're not visiting or doing other stuff. I brought along a selection of supplies with me in our luggage (limited by weight and space) and got a few things (papers mostly) after we arrived at our last familial destination.

One of the heavy things I did bring is my over-sized gaming laptop with 17" screen. I don't game as much as I used to, but the graphics capabilities of a gaming computer is also good for graphic editing which is the other reason I have it. Stored on my laptop are a few digi stamps, but I didn't bring a printer of my own. Most hotels do have a business centre which also has a printer. I printed some of the All Dressed Up images and discovered the printer at this hotel severely needs a cleaning. Most of the images were marred with obvious stray marks of ink. I printed them on lightweight watercolour cardstock and sprayed the sheet with hairspray to seal the printing. The Fairy Swing was one of the cleanest of the printed images, so it became my choice for this card.

I water coloured the image with Distress Ink and a waterbrush.

I keep track of the Distress Inks I use while painting by writing them on scrap or a corner that will be trimmed off.

I decided I wanted to use the layout from the Your Next Stamp challenge.

I fussy cut the image with a border and dry fit it with some papers in my travel stash. I liked this combination, but it didn't "sing" to me.

While looking through other stuff in my stash, I saw the paper I got the other day while at the Peace Nook in Columbia, MO (where  we're visiting my sweetie's family). It's actually wrapping paper, non-wood pulp with a touch of foiling. It was the perfect touch. I added ribbon I brought from home and the combination was right.

A simple sentiment stamped in purple (from the Hero Arts August kit) completed the card front.

For the inside of the card, I wanted to add a thin strip of the wrapping paper 'cause it's so pretty. But, when I tried to slice it with the trimmer, it was getting snagged and torn. So, I used the score grove on the trimmer and scored a strip.

I used my scissors to cut along the score line to make my strip.

I added a strip on each edge of the opening to give the inside a frame. I didn't add a sentiment so the card can be personalised (and because I didn't have anything suitable in the limited stash of stamps I brought with me).
