Putting It Together

I've been wanting to make a spinning effect on a card for a while. Wind up the 'pog' and close the card, when the recipient opens it, SPIN goes the ghostie *grin*

In the mid 1990s there was a game call Pog that used circular pieces made of card. While cutting the various circles as part of this project, I couldn't help but think of them as Pog pieces.

First thing I needed to do was determine the size of the 'pog' for the ghostie stamp in the Happy Owl-oween set. I then stamped two of the ghosties to make two pogs for the spinning piece.

Since today is 1 October, there's a new Kraftin' Kimmie Sketch. When I looked at it, I thought it would be a good fit for my project today.

To figure out which dies and papers to use, I laid out the dies on the magnetic base for the Big Shot. Before I started putting the project together, I knew I wanted to use the ghost paper. It was why I thought about the ghostie for the spinner.

In this try fitting I was thinking to use either a sheer orange ribbon or Little B Starry Night washi in the project but ended up using neither.

The pumpkin and black glitter card stock are both from Micheals, bought a few years ago with the intent to put them into resin projects. My stash of paper for resin has been waylaid into papercrafting *laugh*

I stamped the ghosts in archival Black Soot and then Versamark to emboss with Wow Glow-in-the-dark powder. After I stamped and embossed them, I cut them into the Pogs.

In addition to stamping the ghosts on watercolour card stock, I also stamped them on a Post-It scrap as a mask.

I lightly shaded the ghosts with Weathered Wood and then masked them to blend on Black Soot. I also added Wink of Stella to the ghosts to give them a bit of shimmer.

I love the witchy owl so much! Stamping in black looks a lot like the cell-shading used in comics. That look fit this project well.

I painted the owl with Distress Ink and then used Versamarker to add Glow-in-the-Dark to the star of the wand. I also added Wink of Stella to the buckle on the hat to give it a metallic sheen.

I fussy cut the owl cutting close the the lines of the owl.

Since fussy cutting leaves white edges, I paint along them from the back. Since I used black stamping, I used black on the edges. With the 'no lines' technique, I use the color of the section.

Ghost Pogs and Witchy Owl ready to be carded.

In addition to die cutting the patterned papers and glitter card stock, I also die cut a window in the card base. I had made the card base a top fold to stand up better with the ghost spinner. After making the window, I used Black Soot to lightly distress the card outside and in to fit with the spooky feel.

I dry fit the pieces I cut and neither the Starry washi nor the sheer orange ribbon fit. But, the layout looked to be missing... something.

I die cut a small rectangle of the black glitter card stock. The black panel under the bottom of the top panel anchors everything and links to the black ring. The black ring is to 'hide' the cut edge of the opening for the ghost spinner, to make it look more complete.

And now just to put it together.

To adhere the back Pog for the window background, I used the window in the card base to guide its placement. The background is the scrap circle (Pog) from cutting the ghost panel.

To make the spinning Pog, I adhered the two circles together with Glue Dots with a short length of orange and white cotton twine.

I used Pop Up Glue Dots to adhere the twine to the top and bottom of the window. I used Glue Dots where adhering the twine because of its flexibility as well as its stickiness. When adding the ghost panel, I used the Pop Ups above the glitter card stock and Craft Dots to the area covering the glitter card stock because of how thick that card stock is.

The ghost panel is raised by the Pop Up Glue Dots and glitter card stock. The Witchy Owl is popped up with foam mounting tape.

I finished off the inside with another ghost panel and glitter circle around the window. I added two sentiments around the ghost background for the window. Above the ghosts, I stamped the sentiment in Hickory Smoke and embossed it with Glow-in-the-Dark. I also stamped part of the Witchy Owl and embossed the star with Glow-in-the-Dark as well. In the window, you can see the ghosty semi-spun.
