Seraphina - Sheepski Designs inspiration, watercolour on vellum and Distress Oxide on canvas

Sheepski Designs' Seraphina's Heart is featured as a magical wyvern carrying a wand through the sky trailing magic dust. You can't tame the spirit of someone who has magic in their veins.

My creation is my November inspiration for the Sheepski Design challenge blog. The theme this month is "Show us your Wings". Come play along with us!

My project features watercolour on vellum on canvas coloured with Distress Oxide, Perfect Pearls, and Glimmer Mist.

Putting It Together

A few months ago when I was making my flying car project, Fine Four Fendered Friend, I discovered I could add embossing powder to a very freshly printed image and it would stick long enough to emboss it. When I printed the flying car, on the same sheet of vellum I had Seraphina's Heart. I put the trimmed image into my pouch of printed images awaiting colour.

I decided to colour the vellum embossed image while I was at my day job. I completely forgot to take pictures while painting. But.. while I was painting, I looked at my pencil and at the rod Seraphina is clinging to and.. got the idea for a three-dimensional project.

I fussy cut the coloured image creating holes where the uncoloured rod intersected the body.

I pulled a lollipop stick from my stash and tried it. I giggled when I saw how perfectly it would fit.

I did a dry layout on a small canvas board with the idea of having Seraphina coming out of a fairy tale book.

I die cut the star from glittered cardstock and covered the popsicle stick with gold and silver washi tape. To make sure the tape sticks permanently, I added a bit of adhesive to it.

I wrapped the washi around the stick and used Glue Dots to hold the 2 stars together over the stick.

I slipped the stick back into the holes in the vellum and positioned it on Seraphina with Glue Dots.

I used Distress Oxide (picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, and Salty Ocean) on the canvas board and then sprayed it with Perfect Pearls (Turquoise, Sour Apple, and Gold) and Glimmer Mist (Cherry Limeade). I was intending to put a book over the background but loved how it turned out so much, I decided to leave the book for another day.

I put Seraphina on the background and anchored her with Glue Dots under the wand. Vellum coloured with watercolour curls a lot. I liked how the curl added dimension, but it was curling just a bit too much. So, I also used some Glue Dots at some of the darker areas of the wings half way between the body and the edges of the wings. This holds the wing more open. I also added iridescent rhinestones as magical dust.

I stamped a sentiment from Impression Obsession on the canvas with black archival ink to finish the project.

The sparkle is amazing in person. Some of the gemstones almost look like pearls in the pictures but are clear iridescent.
