Birthday Poppies - watercolour stamping

Red poppies to celebrate a special day. A Magenta stamp with Distress marker watercolouring.

Putting It Together

The inspiring challenge limits the palette to black and white plus one colour. I thought about the poppies stamp I have from the Canadian company, Magenta, and decided to make a CAS birthday card.

I laid out the card with the stamps, just two and very simply.

The centre flower is solid. To stamp it in colour with the rest in black, I masked it off with a piece of washi tape. Ink up the stamp, remove the mask, and stamp.

I left the stamp in the same spot in the Misti and inked up the centre flower with a Distress marker, Barn Door.

I lightly misted the flower..

.. and stamped the red centre flower.

I scribbled the Distress marker on my plastic work surface and...

... used a waterbrush to loosely colour the large flowers.

I misted the whole panel with Perfect Pearls for a light sparkle, Confetti White.

I stamped the sentiment using the same black archival ink as the flowers and added a little bit of white gel pen to the flowers.

After trimming the panel, I ran the edges on the black archival pad. This leaves a very narrow line which finishes this card wonderfully.

I matted the panel with red cardstock from Micheals and added some rhinestones.

Inside the card, I stamped the tops of the outside flowers to add a bit of detail.
