Beachy - Watercolour and Distress crayon background

A pair of flip flops on the beach is a great icon for the lazy days of summer. Who doesn't want to just bum on the beach without a care in the world?

Putting It Together

This is one of the card I made while on my vacation with family in Missouri. It's also the card I made for a friend who moved there from where I knew here, many years ago, in California.

I did the colouring while on the journey, on airplane and in airport. I used colour pencils and water brushes. I had printed the image on light water colour paper before I left home and trimmed the paper to a hand sized panel. It's very relaxing for me to work with colours making something.

I brought along a few die cuts. I used a ring to trace a circle on the image panel.

I used one of the watercolour pencils to make the circle before fussy cutting it.

The circle fits perfectly on another die cut I had brought with me.

None of the background panels or patterned paper I brought with me looked good with the flip flop, so I decided to make a new one. I only brought Distress crayons and markers and no minis or Oxides, so I decided to use the Distress Crayon. I scribbled some on to the plastic work surface I brought with me.

I sprayed the scribble with water.

I then used the blender tool, swirling it in the wet scribble and then applying that to the heavy water colour panel.

I used Mermaid Lagoon, Peacock Feathers, Broken China, and Festive Berries. I then misted the panel with Perfect Pearls mixed with water. I used the power block from my laptop to help dry the panel. The panel is so shimmery and soft. The effect turned out so good I want to do this again when I'm home.

I dry fit the elements.

I affixed the image circle to the die cut and and added foam mounting tape to the back for some dimension.

I adhered the background panel to the card base and the circle centred.  I stamped a sentiment on the inside but didn't get a picture, "This is what Life is all about."
