Call Me

Sometimes we need a reminder of how much someone cares, how a friend still loves you, even if you're miles away.

This card features Unity Stamp Co stamps, stenciling die cutting, and glitter stamping.

Putting It Together

I took a few extra days off for the holiday weekend. I got Monday as "statutory holiday" because I live in Canada and Canada Day was Saturday. Since Monday was the 3rd, I took the 4th, too, with the excuse that, well, I'm still a  US Citizen and that's the US Day (errr Independence Day). And, because I had time in my bank, I took the 5th, too. *grin* We didn't go anywhere or do anything 'special' (we have an away vacation planned in August), but I spent the time cleaning and rearranging my workshop, something it's been needing for a while. I still have more to go on it, but ca now fit in some more storage and now I have space that I can have a friend or two come over and play in my space *grin*. So... yesterday my good friend, Betty, came over for a few hours and we could be social while creating. She had a pile of things in her to-do box that were prepped but she hadn't gotten 'round to, so it was a great time for her, too, to be able to move them all along to the next stage. And I worked on this card.

The current Unity Facebook challenge is hearts and dots. So.. I don't really have many Unity stamps with hearts but thought about this stamp on a stenciled heart background. And then I remembered a circle I had cut out as a window on a project of the past. The hearts had been added to the cardstock with a Clarity brush using Distress ink, Worn Lipstick and Festive Berries or so softly.

Since the circle is so small, I didn't want to obscure the hearts too much, so I decided to try a shimmery see-through light blue for the stamp. I inked up the stamp with the Summer Sky by Memento and stamped it off. I inked up the stamp with Glue Essentials and stamped on the stenciled circle. I cascaded Cool Diamond microfine glitter from Elizabeth Craft Designs over the glue. The effect is a soft shimmery stamping. I could have gone a touch darker on the blue since it's not as visible from all angles and doesn't always pick up on the camera. There's always another project to try it on..

In my stash I have a vellum panel I stenciled with the Bo Bunny glitter paste that I got from a recent 'garage sale' hosted by a local scrapbooking store. It wasn't dots, but I used it to see how the blue glitter paste would look with my Call Me circle. I liked it.. so I stenciled on to white cardstock, and it's pretty, but.. something about the glitter paste on the vellum looked oh so good with the circle, so I stenciled the dots on to vellum.

See how lovely this is on the vellum? Even with the vellum being wavy from the moisture in the paste, or maybe because of it, this sets off the heart better than the paste on a white background.

But... vellum is see through.. so why not a paper under it? I started pulling things from my stash: dotty paper from Micheals, some hearty paper from there, too. I decided to to a window-y tag-y card. I recently got a set of nested tag dies from CC Designs and it fit wonderfully. I also decided to add an additional sentiment, too. I semi dry fit them all together using my imagination to fit them where they would be.

I also played with the idea of a diamond frame of the heart-y paper, but it just didn't sing to me as much. It might be the frame was too narrow. But now I have a frame and rounded corner backing for a future project *laugh*.

I trimmed the heart paper and die cut the window and dry fit again, just to be sure. Yup, I love it. And now I have the stitched tag shape to use on another project *laugh*

I inked the inner and outer edges of the frame with Worn Lipstick.

To make sure vellum stays in place and well adhered, I used Scor-tape. This also shows the other reason for wanting to use a frame or window, it hides the adhesive wonderfully.

I adhered the vellum panel making sure the glittery side was facing out. The Scor-tape holds better with the bumps and waves than a tape runner adhesive would. Tape runner is easier, but I haven't priced out yet to see which is cheaper.

And.. the window.

I added the blue dotty behind the vellum and secured it with more Scor-tape. I love the effect, dots on dots on dots on..

I added in the circle and sentiment popping them up with foam mounting tape (which also holds well with bumps and waves). I added the whole thing to a vertical top fold A2 card base with more Scor-tape.

Inside, I added some of the heart-y scrap to the bottom and stamped a blue sentiment to tie it all together.
