Pretty as a princess waiting for her birthday kiss. My card features a Newton's Nook stamp set with Copic colouring on a Crafter's Companion 3-D embossed panel with Nuvo Embellishment mousse and gold embossing inside and out.
Putting It Together
I like making story cards, especially if the story in my mind is kind of hidden. So, ask yourself, is the girl the princess?
I stamped the image in black on the new Marker paper by Strathmore to give it a try. I used Copic markers to colour up the girl and frog.
I've been increasing my collection of Copic markers when I can find them on the cheap. As my collection of alcohol markers grows I'm starting to like colouring with them. I'm still working on learning various techniques with them, so I kept this colouring pretty simple.
The layout for this card was inspired by an Inky Paws challenge sketch and the colours were inspired by an Outlawz Tuesday Colour challenge. I only needed to use 3 of the colours but I'm an over-achiever *laugh*
I used a stitched round and did a dry fit with a background panel I made and a couple ribbons. I got the wider ribbon as part of a free ribbon sample over 2 years ago! I finally found the project to use some of it on.
I created the background panel with a Crafter's Companion 3-D embossing folder and Nuvo Embellishment Mousse. If you want details on how I made this background, check out my blog post:
Backgrounds with 3D Embossing, part 2.
I tried to tie a little bow with the thinner ribbon when I wrapped the ribbons around the background panel. The bow is a separate piece of the ribbon tied around the piece wrapping the panel.
On the back of the panel, hidden from view, you can see that my ribbons are held in place by washi tape and the adhesive to hold the panel on the card base. I used double-sided adhesive on the panel because of the bumpy embossing and the weight of the ribbons.
Double-sided adhesive tape tends to stick fast as soon as you put it in place without any ability to reposition. To make it easier to position the panel, I place sips of the release paper from the tape turned to the side and sticking out over the sides. This keeps the tape from sticking as soon as it touches the card base paper.
Once I have the background where I want it, I gently press down between the snips and then simply pull the release tabs out before pressing firmly all the way around. As I was putting the panel in place, my small bow undid itself and just would not re-bow. So... I left it as a knot with tails. I am horrible at tying bows with ribbon.
I embossed the front sentiment with gold over the dress and pop-up with the disc with foam mounting table. I added a couple rhinestones for a bit more sparkle.
Inside, I embossed the sentiment and castle with gold and added the frog with green ink. I used a gold marker on the crown and added a rhinestone to make the crown match the one on the front. So, which is the princess believing in her dreams?
