Merry Christmas! My festive card features a Mexican beauty from a Kraftin' Kimmie / Annie Roderique stamp coloured with Prismacolor pencils under a California-Spanish architecture inspired arch embossed and coloured with Cosmic Shimmer and decorated with Memory Box poinsettia.
Putting It Together
Most of my childhood was spent in Southern and Central California. Mexican motifs were all around. I love the bright colours and the Spanish influenced architecture. Poinsettias are also a Christmas flower that first came from Mexico.
I used Prismacolur pencils on a light terra cotta coloured Mi Teintes panel to colour this long retired Kraftin' Kimmie stamp by Annie Roderique.
I had gotten the Feliz Navidad sentiment die last year when I found it on sale. When I coloured the image it was with thoughts of using it with this die. But, I wasn't sure what to do for the rest project until I remembered the frame dies. It's kind of a set, a Tim Holtz Movers and Shakers base and magnetic die, Vintage Cabinet Card and Mini Cabinet Card. The shape reminds me of the Spanish mission architecture of California, especially when combined with the Mexican inspired image. I cut it out of white mat board and dry fit it with the image and sentiment. I also added white gel pen dots to the eyes to give them more life.
I wanted to use the frame to adhere and hide the edges of the Mi Tientes panel so I needed to trim it. I put the frame down to position the image and then laid the centre back in the void.
I loosely drew around the centre.
I then trimmed with a pair of scissors.
The image panel fits on the frame with room to adhere it without it being visible over the sides.
To decorate the frame, I started with Chocolate Bronze Cosmic Shimmer, covering the frame and edges.
I used a long retired Stampin' Up embossing folder, Boho Chic, because the pattern reminds me of tile.
After embossing, I used more Cosmic Shimmer, Enchanted Gold and Tangy Tangerine, to enhance the pattern and add a hint of colour.
The finished frame looks amazing on its own. I love how mat board embosses.
One of the reasons I love the Movers and Shapers with the separate magnetic die, you can easily remove the centre piece to have another cut. Running the die with the fold just below the top cut edge on a folded card base makes a quick shaped base to match the frame.
I used a Memory Box die to cut poinsettia parts and dry fit them with the framed image and the sentiment cut from orange foiled cardstock. I used Stardream paper for the poinsettia parts because the pearlized/metallic finish matches well with the frame.
I die cut the sentiment from heavy white cardstock to stack below the orange foiled cardstock to give the sentiment some dimension.
To line up the two parts of the sentiment, I used a ruler. I used the sentiment to cover the hands of the image because I wasn't entirely happy with how they had turned out. While colouring her, I had thought about putting paper flowers over her hands but this works well, too.
I added the poinsettias and brown rhinestones for the flower centres. I also added orange rhinestones for the dots on the i's.
I used a leaf die from another Kraftin' Kimmie set and masking to add a poinsettia detail to the inside.
