A friendly birthday owl to help release the balloons is the feature of this single layer watercolour card with a Unity Stamps set and Neocolor II water soluble crayons.
Putting It Together
Sometimes when I complete something fiddly and with a lot of parts, I get a hankering for a single layer card. I went to a garage sale hosted by a scrapbook store today and got a new-to-me set of water-medium crayons. After finishing up another project, I decided to give them a go and why not on a single layer card.
I simply trimmed 300gsm watercolour paper into a strip 11" x 4 1/4" then scored and folded it at the 5 1/2" point to make an A2 (5 1/2" x 4 1/4") card. I stamped the image with black archival ink and then used the crayons with a waterbrush to paint/colour the image.
I did a quick paint on this project with the Neocolor crayons to get a first impression feel for them. They're similar to Scribble Sticks but a bit softer so not as "scratchy" when you apply them directly to the paper. They move very well and are strongly pigmented. I do like them. I'm glad I picked them up as an impulse buy and the most expensive thing I bought that day.
They're not even massively expensive at full-retail., not cheap but not insanely priced. When looking up details for them online, I at first was mildly annoyed I paid nearly full price for them, but they were hardly used (the seller had bought the full set after she tried them) and I am in Canada paying in Canadian dollars and the sites I looked at are in the US. So, I did pay less for them, converted, if you take that into account.
I stamped the cheeky sentiment with Archival ink to finish the front.
Inside, I stamped the top part of the image to have a bunch of balloons rising from the bottom for a bit of fun detail inside. A simple sentiment and it's done.
