A little kitty to welcome you to read is on a lovely bookmark made with a Newton's Nook stamp set and Distress Oxides on glossy photo paper. But wait, there's more!
The bookmark is a card! Slip the ribbon and open it up to reveal another kitty and sentiment with lots of space for a personal message.
Putting It Together
Over the weekend I showed my friend Betty a really fun technique using Distress Oxides, glossy photo paper, and wet wipes. The technique is fantastically simple. In a nutshell, you smush very wet Distress Oxides ink on to the glossy photo paper, dry it with a heat tool, and then wipe the photo paper with a wet wipe. It's a messy technique with amazing results. If you want to see the process, check out my recent post for the Book Fairy wall hanging I recently made.
I got the idea for this card while I was at my day job pondering how I could use this adorable stamp set with one of the glossy paper panels I made over the weekend. This idea struck like a bolt using the angled edge die set and making a bookmark that's also a card.
I trimmed and die cut the glossy paper and a lightweight cardstock for the base and trim. Bookmarks should be lightweight and thin so they don't cause bulges that can ruin the book.
I stamped the image and a sentiment in black and adhered glossy paper to the base and added the top piece. I trimmed the sides of the top and used a corner rounder for a more finished look. A hole punched and a ribbon added (so the bookmark doesn't slide all the way down into the book and hide away) completes the look.
To open the card, you do need to loosen the ribbon, but it's simply looped so that's easy. Inside, I stamped a sentiment and another image from the adorable stamp set.
