Summer Drink

Summer calls for special cocktails with pink lemonade and just a hint of booze. I used the free image, Birthday Cocktail, from Sheepski Designs (available for free to the Facebook group members) and my newest fav technique with Distress Oxide.

Putting It Together

I will admit to being utterly enthralled with this particular technique with the new Distress Oxide ink and stencils. In a way, it's a reverse stenciling. And has such a way cool effect.

To start, I masked off a border on the card base with micro-pore tape (that I had first put on my pants to tone down the sticky). This also anchored it to my plastic sheet work surface.

I used a blender tool to add Wilted Violet.

I sprayed the stencil with water..

... and laid it on the panel.

I used a paper towel to blot up the excess water.

When I took the stencil off, there were puddles of water so..

... I laid the towel back down and blotted up the water.

The damp finished panel.

I carefully removed the tape masking the edges.

After removing the masking, I used a heat tool to completely dry the panel.

I dry fit some ideas for the card using a vellum panel over the base.

I had printed the cocktail image earlier when I was making Fine 4 Fender Friend. After printing the images on to vellum, I immediately covered them with clear embossing powder. The ink from my printer is wet and sticky long enough for me to do a quick embossing.

I decided to work on the inside of the card before continuing on the front. I stamped the sentiment in a lavender ink and then added a soft sunburst over the sentiment with a stencil and mask and Spun Sugar.

Because the cocktail was already embossed it resisted the Distress ink I added, Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick, for a subtle look.

The vellum panel is anchored with adhesive under the Summer Words and Harlequin tapes.

I added a bit of washi to the inside to add more colour to the sentiment and subtle soft pink sunburst.
