Today I am bringing you an inspiration card for the Through the Craft Room Door blog challenge. Our sponsor this week is Twinkle Lane.
Twinkle Lane Designs was started in 2015 - created by Suzanne Porter BA (Hons) Graduate in Fashion Enterprise. I have always been creative, I love all types of crafts, sewing, papercraft, drawing. As an avid cardmaker I created Twinkle Lane so I could make unique characters and papers to make wonderful cards.
My card uses the Hot Air Balloon which includes several images and digital papers. I used Gelly Roll pens, Liquid Applique, Glamour Dust, and Distress ink to colour the image and Nuvo embellishment Mousse with die cuts on the background.
Putting It Together
Last summer at a 'garage sale' sponsored by a local scrapbooking store, I bought a bundle of Gelly Roll pens, metallics and Glaze. I usually only use them for detail touches but decided to use them as the primary colouring medium for this project.
First I printed the images I wanted to use from the Twinkle Lane Hot Air Balloon bundle. I printed the large image on white pearl Core'dinations cardstock and one of the digital papers on white canvas Core'dinations cardstock. The fun thing with digital papers is that you can choose the cardstock or paper to print on for different looks.
I used the Gelly Roll pens to colour the image.
I used mostly metallics but included a Glaze light blue, too. The Gelly Roll pens dry slower than most of the mediums I usually use so I had to be careful not to smear.
I added Liquid Applique to the clouds for a bit of dimension and then sprinkled them with Glamour Dust for a bit of sparkle.
I decided to make the disc behind the blue as a sun and used a soft wash of Distress ink Squeezed Lemonade.
I left the birds white as doves.
I fussy cut the image leaving a narrow margin.
I dry fit the image on a card base with an oval die to find one to fit.
I used the oval along with a dotted inner border to trim the printed digital paper. At this point, I felt it needed something more...
I had a panel from another project (Hot Stuff) that I had spoiled by trying embossing directly on the panel that had been covered with Nuvo embellishment mousse Cornflower and die cut with the Simon Says Stamp background Stiched Whirl.
The oval fit perfectly on the panel and entirely covered the botched embossing and was a perfect fit for the look of the card. Another example of why you shouldn't toss something right away if you think it's messed up.
But... I felt I needed a thin matting for the oval. The next die up was too large, so I traced the oval on the white pearl cardstock and fussy cut it.
When I dry fit them together one last time, it was the perfect look.
I adhered them to the card base, the background panel and oval flat on the base with the balloon popped up with foam mounting tape. I added a banner die cut from translucent paper and stamped with a sentiment. I folded the banner and added adhesive just on the underside of the folds. I also added irridescent rhinestones to the dots on the balloon. This sentiment is from the newly released Kick Assy Birthday set from Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps.
Inside, I stamped a sentiment from the Unity Stamps set Hug, Kisses, & Birthday Wishes along with the cake from the Kick Assy set. I added touches of Gelly Roll to the cake's icing and the candles.
