Mistle-toad - watercolour, stencilling

Have a punny Christmas! My card feature a stamp set and stencil set from Newton's  Nook with Distress Oxide stencilling and Distress marker colouring. I have a friend whose nickname is Toad, so stamps and other things with a toad or frog make me think of her. I used a cheeky sentiment on the inside, too, inspired by my friend.

Putting It Together

I love Newton's Nook stamps and stencils!

My inspiration for the layout is the current Inky Paws challenge. One of these days I'll win the draw and use the prize for more of their fun stencils and stamps.

I did a dry layout with the Argyl stencil set, the Mistle Toad set, and a die from Your Next Stamp to make sure it will all fit.

I laid down the diamond stencil over a linen texture panel and anchored it on one side before adding Lucky Clover Distress Oxide with a blender tool. I heat set the layer.

I lined up the second stencil using the guides marks around the diamonds and anchored one side.

I used the blender tool to add Candied Apple Distress Oxide.

Lovely Christmas Argyl

I stamped the toad with a light grey on watercolour paper. I use the Misti to double stamp on the textured paper.

I used Distress markers to watercolour the toad and mistletoe with accents of Liquid Pearl and Nuvo drops. I always forget to add the drops -after- die cutting an image panel instead of before. The pressure of the Big Shot squishes them flat even when they feel dry. I had to re-add the mistletoe berries later.

I added red and green metallic thread from Stampin' Up last year to the frog panel. I tried to make bow, really I did, but I so suck at tying bows *laugh*. I did a dry fit with the background panel and a ribbon from Micheals last Christmas. The texture in the ribbon reminds me of scales which fits so well.

I used a ribbon from Joann's last Christmas as the matting for the card. Sometimes ribbon bits make the perfect mat look. The ribbon also has a bit of texture which elevates the card.

I rounded the corners on the Argyl and embossed the punny sentiment.

I added the toad panel with foam mounting tape for a bit of dimension.

Inside, I used a blender brush with the stencil set to echo the front but softly to be a good background for a personal greeting. The sentiment is from Micheals.
