Beachy Keen - watercolour pencil

Sun worshipping is popular this time of year in the northern hemisphere. Running along on the beach with nary a care, beachy keen! My card features a stamp set from Kraftin' Kimmie stamps coloured with Nuvo watercolour pencils.

Putting It Together

I'm not terribly fond of summer heat, but summer frivolity and freeness, that's for me.

I stamped the image with black archival ink on watercolour cardstock.

Using watercolour pencils, especially creamy ones like the Nuvo pencils, I use a combo of techniques. A bit of pencil layering and blending with a water brush to finish the blend instead of a white or light coloured pencil. I aimed for a sunkissed look to the skin.

For the hair, I use a lot of colours but don't blend them with water for a more textured look.

I used yellow for her suit and wrap, bringing in the sunshine.

I finished off with two reds for her mouth.

I found a die for the perfect fit.

I used a blender tool to add a couple Distress ink colours to the outer edges of the oval. I used blue, Tumbled Glass, on the top and a light brown, Tie Dye, on the bottom for sky and sand.

To spice up the beachy theme, I decided to use a kraft card base and blue background papers. I also added in a strip of seashells.

I used the July sketch from the Kraftin' Kimmie challenges for the layout.

I stamped a sentiment on the oval and, after adhering the background papers, I used foam mounting tape on the oval for dimension and added 3 glittery yellow enamel dots to bring in a bit more yellow and balance (even though they're not in the sketch).

Inside, I added another sentiment and pile of shells from older Kraftin' Kimmie sets.
