Bday Monsters - Through the Craftroom Door, gelatos watercolour

This week's sponsor for the Through the Craftroom Door blog challenge is Bugaboo Stamps! The randomly drawn winner will get a $12 gift certificate for the shop.

As if raising five children in the frozen land of the North was not enough of a challenge, Jodie Mackrell decided to dip her cold little Canadian toes into the world of papercrafting by opening an online store full of her illustrations. That was seven years ago. Today Bugaboo Stamps is one of the leading companies in digital images, and we're still growing! From seriously snarky to sugary sweet to sublimely soulful all the way over to the other side of the super sexy spectrum, you're bound to find all that you need and more to create your paper projects. Jodie works very hard to provide New Releases and Freebies every week!

For my inspiration card, I chose the Birthday Monsters, a cute bunch with birthday cheer.

Putting It Together

I decided to use a colouring medium in my stash that I haven't used in a while, Gelatos and Gelly Roll pens! Gelatos are creamy crayons with great colour and versatility. Gelly Roll pens are gel pens in metallic and dimensional Glaze.

I printed the image on Canson XL watercolour paper and dabbed all the gelatos of my stash on a plastic sheet as a palette. I used waterbrushes to pick up the colour and paint the monsters in bright friendly colours.

I then used nearly every Gelly Roll pen from my stash to add details, adding in a few details with Uniball white, too.

With the image coloured, I turned my thoughts to ways to incorporate it into a card. I had thought for a frame with stars and dry fit an Elizabeth Craft Designs die with the image to see if it would be big enough.

I used the die to cut the frame pieces from a bright striped paper, a long retired designer paper from Stampin' Up. I assembled the frame using Purple Tape (repositional tape that holds but doesn't stick permanently to the paper) and dry fit it on the image. I like the subtle stars and the bright strips match so well.

I adhered the frame permanently with Tombow tape runner and trimmed the image panel to the frame. I felt it needed something more so I used a Simon Says Stamp die to cut "happy birthday" from teal coloured foiled cardstock.

I adhered the sentiment with Zig glue pen  I used Gelly Roll pens to add a bit more party confetti to the left side to fill the blank area.

Inside I added a partial frame to the top to tie into the front and added a sentiment from Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps with teal Archival ink.
