Loki - Distress Oxide galaxy background, Distress ink colouring with Perfect Pearl accents

"Kneel before me. I said, KNEEL!"

The Dragon Queen from Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps is dressed as the Avengers Loki and taking over her galaxy. The Queen is coloured/painted with Distress Ink and Perfect Pearls. The background is Distress Oxide, Distress Paint, and Perfect Pearls.

Putting It Together

I started this card by wanting to do a galaxy background and let it lead me to the rest.

I started with the smooshing technique. I dabbed Oxides on my clear plastic work surface with the cardstock panel under the plastic so I could see how much ink to put down.

I sprayed the dabs with water and then laid the card on the ink, pressing down to smoosh the water around. I carefully picked up the panel and dabbed it in in the puddles of ink where it wasn't inky. I used a heavy weight watercolour cardstock so it could handle a lot of water.

I heat dried the panel and dabbed more, heat dried and dabbed until it was covered and the ink on the work surface had run together and got grey-y blah. I heat the set the panel one more time. I really like how this turned out and could have stopped here for a background for some other project.

I tried Jennifer McGuire's technique of using an acrylic block to 'stamp' the Black Soot Oxide over the panel. I sprayed it with Perfect Pearls mixed with water, but I used Confetti White 'cause it's what I have in my 'pearl' mister.

Tip: To know which is a plain water mister and a pearl mister, stick a pearl embellishment on the pearl one.

I stamp/smeared the black over the panel.

I smeared and smooshed and patted with a dry cloth and heat set and added more black. I dabbed more of the bottom colours on the work surface and lightly sprayed them with the pearl mist. I used them to add colour over the black. I heat set a lot in between various layers and additions.

I also really liked this panel, too, just as it is. I could have stopped here.

But I wanted splatter, so I put the panel into my splatter shield (a box I had stuff shipped to me).

I loaded a brush with Distress paint and used another brush to bang on the handle and scatter paint droplets in the box and on to my panel.

My finished galaxy with the colours used.

I decided to give the galaxy background to the Dragon Queen. I stamped her with a light brown and painted/coloured her with Distress ink. I was originally intending to make her cape red, but while I was painting her face and looking at her horns, she started whispering to me "Loki", so I switched out the reds for greens.

She really does look a treat in Loki's colours. A lot of different inks went into her colouring. Holy Smokes, Artichokes. I was running out of room on my scratch paper to get them all listed. I used Distress ink and Perfect Pearls.

Since I was going to be cutting her out, I decided to surround her with Black Soot Oxide misted with the Perfect Pearl water. I carefully edged her.

The black sets her off nicely.

I fussy cut the image and then edged it with Black Soot Distress ink.

I dry fit the goddess.

To adhere the galaxy to the card base, I used Scor-tape for better adhesion.

I turned the release paper to the be tabs so I could position the panel.

I used foam mounting tape to elevate the goddess.

Inside, I used stamps from two other stamp sets and masking to isolate just the stars.
