Sunshine - Die cuts and Distress ink stenciling

Sunshine and everything in bloom, the Earth is laughing and enjoying the glorious Summer day. A lovely card for a "thinking of you".

This card features stamps and dies from Impression Obsession and a stencil from Elizabeth Craft Designs with Salty Ocean Distress ink for the sky.

Putting It Together

I've had this idea for the past few days but it "itched" at me so much last night that, when I was having problems sleeping, I got up and made the card. I had the die cuts already, the flower from my first cutting after getting the die, and the "Sunshine" for a project that I ended up using something else.

I secured a white soft finished panel to my work surface with washi tape masking off a margin that was slightly larger than my sunflower.  I dry fit the sunflower to make sure it was the the right dimension.

I  user Salty Ocean Distress ink and a blender tool with the stencil to create the sky and clouds. With the tool on the stencil, flick up to get the blue behind/between the clouds. I started with my blender saturated with ink to get a darker sky at the top and used in less heavy at the bottom for a lighter colour.

I dry fit the sunflower over the stencil background.

I carefully removed the washi.

If you pull it at an angle away from the cardstock, you're less likely to tear the paper. It also helps to have washi that you've either used several times or have taken some of the stickiness off by putting it on your clothes a couple times. You want it sticky enough to secure the panel in place for stenciling but not so sticky it adheres permanently. I hang my used but reusable washi from my overhead lamp. It looks almost like a jelly fish now.

After gluing the sunflower down, I added the Sunshine die cut (white gold Neenah metallic) and "hello" from the matching stamp set. I used a rhinestone for the dot over the 'i" (the tiddle) and added three more at the bottom.

For the inside of the card, I used the Double Daisy stamp to add flowers at the bottom in Duckling yellow to echo the front. I used just the top parts of the stamp which was a bit awkward to place in the Misti with the long card, but the result is well worth it.

I chose the "Earth laughs in flowers" quote because it made me smile and is delightful for a "I'm thinking of you" card.
