Sock Hop - watercolour, die cutting

Sock races!!! A fun activity for a Christmas morning. My card features a House Mouse Designs stamp along with die cuts from several different places and Perfect Pearls on a Stampendeous background stamp.

Putting It Together

I got the cute little sock hop racers from a recent garage sale at a local scrapbooking store.

The stamp was wood mounted but I much prefer using my Misti especially since I often stamp on watercolour paper which is slightly textured and often requires a couple stampings to be complete. So, I removed the stamp from the wood and mounted it on a piece of acetate that was from packaging. The glue on the House Mouse wood mounts is really sticky but isn't difficult to lift the stamp without tearing it. It's also been rather warm here which helps make the glue more pliable. I also removed the decor from the front of the wood mount to put on my plastic mount. I use a bit or removable adhesive on the plastic mount and stamp with my Misti no problems.

I stamped the image with black Archival ink on AquaBee watercolor paper  and then used Zig Clean Color marker with waterbrushes to colour the image.

I added some Uniball white pen details.

Using a stitched rectangle die, I trimmed the coloured panel. I also die cut matting and some embellishments. I did a dry using the sketch from Crazy for Challenges.

I turned the sketch on its side for my card.

I used the Decor Music background stamp with Versamark to stamp on the kraft card base. I brushed on Biscotti Perfect Pearls for a subtle musical background.

I assembled my card, trimming the diagonal corners to fit the card base. I added some rhinestones to the flowers and the bow on the candy cane.

Inside, I used die cut sentiment from the same cardstock as the matting for the image and added the same flowers die cuts.

  1. Love the House Mouse image, Rijacki! It's hard to get them in my area and I think they're darling. What a fun image this is, with the adorable little mice, each in their own stocking, having a race across the piano keys. And you've coloured them so beautifully, too, giving them dimension with the shading you've done. I love the a-kilter image with its unique die-cut matte. Great idea to have that subtle pearlized background on your kraft base. Thanks so much for joining our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.
