I started with the idea of a rainbow confetti background and used <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/tow-5556.html" target="_blank">transfer gel </a>and <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/nm-dfs6x12-53045.html" target="_blank">rainbow foil </a>with the <a href="https://www.kraftinkimmiestamps.com/product/new-confetti-stencil/" target="_blank">Confetti stencil</a>. It's so hard to get a good picture with foil. It's very rainbow-riffic in person. </div><div><br /></div><div>While I was waiting on the transfer gel to dry (and for my next window of crafty time), I got the idea to do a shaker. With a full card shaker, I didn't have to cover up any of the rainbow foil goodness. Then the candy troll kids of <a href="https://www.kraftinkimmiestamps.com/product/new-troll-trouble/" target="_blank">Troll Trouble</a> popped in my head to direct the rest of the card. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiop9KbnwDgxkuk_YeqYwSefThRgU2tL2vAvB4Sup9jhrP54CcpuNz7libQhI8A2dFSQP6AUFgQ2keyEnZ4FTTDl0E1crtaXu02QNacoRqep9xp-5LMXt5uNQbK3laRIYpQqs3mufjZ-eEV/s2048/RijackiDesign_RainbowSweetyTreaty_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1548" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiop9KbnwDgxkuk_YeqYwSefThRgU2tL2vAvB4Sup9jhrP54CcpuNz7libQhI8A2dFSQP6AUFgQ2keyEnZ4FTTDl0E1crtaXu02QNacoRqep9xp-5LMXt5uNQbK3laRIYpQqs3mufjZ-eEV/s320/RijackiDesign_RainbowSweetyTreaty_1.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div>I coloured the girl troll with rainbow hair 'cause I wish I had rainbow in my hair.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu5OGCaWDcvLjF3PAtOFAkWAK6CGiKQu0y5aCDGvDtpiccu2rtWQolpbuw2xqPJqVCpTCOY_6NpCZgE8uxhFiF19HWl46DXyZ7tSZ7AfVHn4BHoHruF_5vJTjBV-cGB9VsauIPFI8DaAWm/s2048/RijackiDesign_RainbowSweetyTreaty_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1686" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu5OGCaWDcvLjF3PAtOFAkWAK6CGiKQu0y5aCDGvDtpiccu2rtWQolpbuw2xqPJqVCpTCOY_6NpCZgE8uxhFiF19HWl46DXyZ7tSZ7AfVHn4BHoHruF_5vJTjBV-cGB9VsauIPFI8DaAWm/s320/RijackiDesign_RainbowSweetyTreaty_2.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div>I want that rainbow t-shirt, too! </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb6ijmKTWwzAunli8tqxKkLtTv7BISC_Lq0JzMBjRU4Dc-7HJcISlT7QaA4yjFmBd396Ni544ShFE390J37oSCf_1clTCZNGLKpKp5365Aw5TKgdXe3rwqXq7hoi1x0I1jV4dyUg4Vtl4r/s2010/RijackiDesign_RainbowSweetyTreaty_3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2010" data-original-width="1566" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb6ijmKTWwzAunli8tqxKkLtTv7BISC_Lq0JzMBjRU4Dc-7HJcISlT7QaA4yjFmBd396Ni544ShFE390J37oSCf_1clTCZNGLKpKp5365Aw5TKgdXe3rwqXq7hoi1x0I1jV4dyUg4Vtl4r/w311-h400/RijackiDesign_RainbowSweetyTreaty_3.png" width="311" /></a></div><br /><div>I assembled the shaker with the rainbow confetti background and troll kids on the front with a sentiment stamped with <a href="https://www.kraftinkimmiestamps.com/product/new-whimsical-wisteria-ink-pad/" target="_blank">Whimsical Wisteria</a> and then embossed with a touch of <a href="https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product?id=128645" target="_blank">holographic</a> sparkle. I added <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/ton-948n.html" target="_blank">Nuvo glitter accents Snowfall</a> to add sugary crunch to the lollies and <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/ton-677n.html" target="_blank">Nuvo crystal drops Morning Dew</a> to add gloss to the girl troll's buttons and barrettes. I used Sizzix <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/sz-665270.html" target="_blank">mystical opulant cardstock</a> for the prismatic rainbow frame. For the shaker shaka-shaka, I added in <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/dmc-dmcs3877.html" target="_blank">Rainbow Candy shaker elements</a> from Dress My Craft and holographic stars and triangles from Nuvo. I forgot to de-static the shaker pouch before putting the stuff in and sealing it up (a swipe with a dry Swiffer cloth works great for that) and accidentally added more stars than I meant to. I had gotten some of the brand new Pixie Sparkles and was experimenting to see how the three types of mica-pigment powders I have in stash compare. I already had several Nuvo Shimmer Powder and a handful of Cosmic Shimmer Pixie Powder. Not only are all three similar, they also work wonderfully together. So... I went on to more experimenting and created a background. It's not real easy getting the powder to poof exactly where you want, but it is fun.<div><br /></div><div>I used <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/ce-csppmid.html?w=shimmer+powder" target="_blank">Midnight Blue</a> and <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/ce-csppwhitemix.html?w=shimmer+powder" target="_blank">White Pearl </a>from Cosmic Shimmer for the sky and <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/ton-1214n.html?w=shimmer+powder" target="_blank">Green Parade</a>, <a href="https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product/Tonic-FALLING-LEAVES-Nuvo-Shimmer-Powder-1217n-1217n?currency=USD" target="_blank">Falling Leaves</a>, <a href="https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product/Tonic-CHERRY-BOMB-Nuvo-Shimmer-Powder-1209n-1209n?currency=USD" target="_blank">Cherry Bomb</a>, and <a href="https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product/Tonic-SOLAR-FLARE-Nuvo-Shimmer-Powder-1210n-1210n?currency=USD" target="_blank">Solar Flare</a> from Nuvo for the ground. I used <a href="https://www.dickblick.com/products/canson-montval-watercolor-pads/" target="_blank">Canson Montval </a>watercolour paper well misted on both sides and a wide waterbrush. <br /><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixSs8d9GHcNCvczrl1KRlHLS0DxXnM8a9tROlSPNfWfiUZyUlbR8U7qu65dSFXXTmRaRtO1ZSjumiLDwIcbgTW6DhEVUp3L0VwGsq6-1p4-BhKjTYXBRVlA5x4Nfy4KoFErTSxSaMchiCe/s2048/20210322_214334.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1899" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixSs8d9GHcNCvczrl1KRlHLS0DxXnM8a9tROlSPNfWfiUZyUlbR8U7qu65dSFXXTmRaRtO1ZSjumiLDwIcbgTW6DhEVUp3L0VwGsq6-1p4-BhKjTYXBRVlA5x4Nfy4KoFErTSxSaMchiCe/s320/20210322_214334.png" /></a></div><br /><div>I didn't use this panel in my project but still wanted to show you what I mean by these mica-powders being similar. In a photo, the shimmer shows up best on black. I used <a href="https://www.dickblick.com/products/legion-stonehenge-aqua-black-watercolor-paper-pads/" target="_blank">Stonehenge black watercolour</a> paper misted on the back and front, misted again after applying powder, and then dried with a heat tool. On the left is the brand new <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/ce-cspspcrush.html?w=pixie+sparkles" target="_blank">Pixie Sparkles - Coral Crush</a> and centre is <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/ce-csppburor.html?w=pixie+powder" target="_blank">Pixie Powder - Burnt Orange</a>, both part of the Cosmic Shimmer line from Creative Expression. To the right is <a href="https://www.scrapbook.com/store/ton-1215n.html?w=shimmer+powder" target="_blank">Shimmer Powder - Catherine's Wheel</a> part of the Nuvo line from Tonic Studios. All three have incredible shimmer. The nozzle on the Pixie Sparkles might be a hair narrower but is definitely a little longer. The particles seem to be roughly the same size as the older Pixie Powder. Both of the Pixies are mostly monochromatic with different tones in the bits. The Nuvo powder is a bit more grainy and doesn't completely melt as much as the Pixies, but there are more tones and a mix of colours in most of the Shimmer Powders. Catherine's wheel has yellows and reds as well as the oranges, like fire. All three are, as I noted before, incredibly shimmery and mica filled (shake the dry powders well before poofing), and they do work well together. The colours in the three don't appear to overlap, so... I'll likely end up getting all of the rest *laugh* (I currently have all but a couple of the Shimmer Powders, six Pixie Powders, and now four of the Pixie Sparkles -- good thing they can't possibly dry out *laugh*)</div><div><br /></div><div>Back to the project.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCaw6tZ-OVV1htcqgQojbAiifEcupF-hmLden7IwwrTrtg8yT9cYfPmDQ8vW-eqEwVMsqloQ_Isk3RQ3_64OfIzNh0sHEotaMTt-8uNCXPE1fdMoeiSqI4Fe6GvjEFKrvCQYaKKvkz7lun/s2048/RijackiDesign_NatureKin_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1731" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCaw6tZ-OVV1htcqgQojbAiifEcupF-hmLden7IwwrTrtg8yT9cYfPmDQ8vW-eqEwVMsqloQ_Isk3RQ3_64OfIzNh0sHEotaMTt-8uNCXPE1fdMoeiSqI4Fe6GvjEFKrvCQYaKKvkz7lun/s320/RijackiDesign_NatureKin_1.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div>I pondered what to pair with the background and there, sitting on my desk, newly arrived was the <a href="https://www.kraftinkimmiestamps.com/product/new-tweetie-birds/" target="_blank">Tweetie Pies</a> stamp set from Kraftin' Kimmie. I was fishing about on Google for recipes using chicken in the Instant Pot and stumbled on Beef Plov after a few meanderings. I tweaked it a bit over time and now it's my favourite thing with beef and rice and vegetables. </p><p>My beef plov inspired one pot dish, Rijacki's Plov, ends up being a bit like a beef stew but with rice instead of the broth. The recipe is inexact because I make it with "hmm.. a bit of this, a bit of that, more of that this time, less of this" with lots of options. It's a hearty meal for a chilly day. </p><span><a name='more'></a></span><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSVXl32xG9kW0VJPGpPn-Pc1mwzn9f3M6yqMtQwiagGEiHQF0pDfZDBiMi5KfnKI8bS2JVQdKH5k81hO61OElwx8URi0Fkj6ZLlEaYPNiKuxb0F3jPGPHnqSoDQlQxcTkiO1HqqoYhgIhyphenhyphen/s2048/RijackisPlov_0.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSVXl32xG9kW0VJPGpPn-Pc1mwzn9f3M6yqMtQwiagGEiHQF0pDfZDBiMi5KfnKI8bS2JVQdKH5k81hO61OElwx8URi0Fkj6ZLlEaYPNiKuxb0F3jPGPHnqSoDQlQxcTkiO1HqqoYhgIhyphenhyphen/s320/RijackisPlov_0.png" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p><b>Beef Roast 2-3lbs: </b>I use a small roast of whatever type was conveniently on sale. Stewing meat would be okay but generally has a lot more connective tissue and is a lot of end cuts.</p><p><b>1-2 Onions: </b>Yellow onions though a mix of yellow and red is good, too, if that's what in your pantry and needs to be used. Two small or one large onion is good, though more if you like it more oniony works, too.</p><p><b>2-4c cut-up carrots and/or other root vegetables</b>: Carrots and brown turnip (also called rutabaga) are my choices. They make for a hearty stew and a hearty plov, too. Brown turnip is not as sweet as white turnip. It's a lot more like potato but not as mealy. It has a very mild flavour but adds vitamins and a nice texture difference. For tonight, I used two different types of carrots because the big one needed to be used and the little ones just fill in extra. I love the huge carrots that we get up here. They're a different variety of carrot that just grows jumbo and is available in Autumn and winter. </p><p><b>2-3c brown rice</b>: Brown rice takes longer to cook so stands up to the longer cooking time of the beef. I generally use 2c of brown rice and add mixed wild rice and grains and barley for a bit of variety. Basically, you want about 3c of grains. </p><p><b>Optional: 1/2-3/4c Mixed grain and wild rice</b>: The mixed rice adds more favour and texture</p><p><b>Optional: 1/4-1/2c barley</b>: My sweetie and I like barley in our stew, so I started adding it in the plov as well.</p><p><b>Optional: 12oz can stewed tomato</b>: My first variation from a traditional plov was dropping the tomatoes. I don't like them and they don't like me, so off they go. But, if you want to add them, a canned of stewed tomatoes with the bits cut up, reduce the other liquid by at least 1/4c. </p><p><b>1 tbs olive oil:</b> I prefer olive oil but any vegetable oil can be used instead</p><p><b>2 tsp salt: </b>adjust to taste</p><p><b>1-2 tsp black pepper: </b>adjust to taste, I use a pepper grinder for fresh pepper. </p><p><b>1 tsp powdered garlic:</b> If you prefer you can mince a clove of garlic. The powdered kind is just easier on my digestion. </p><p><b>1 tsp dried mustard:</b> Dried mustard adds a mild zing. </p><p><b>1/2 tsp thyme: </b>Thyme adds savoury to the rice and the beef.</p><p><b>2 bay leaves: </b>Bay adds big flavour to soups and stews and plovs.</p><p><b>Optional 1/2 tsp fennel seed: </b>Fennel seed adds a bit of rusticness. </p><p><b>3c water or beef broth (less if using stewed tomato):</b> We use Knorr beef stock bullion. One pod makes 3 cups broth. It's best to let it to a natural release and not turn the release knob as soon as the pressure cooking has dinged to say it's done, but if the smells are driving you nuts and you suddenly remember you forgot to have lunch, you can carefully release the steam.
