Putting It Together

Single layer cards bring out their own techniques and require a different kind of planning. For this project I chose to use a Fairy in leaves and paint her in Autumn colours.

Since I was going to be watercolouring the image, I cut an A2 card from a heavy watercolour card stock. I also created a mask of the image by stamping the image on typing paper and fussy cutting it. A bit of removable adhesive on the back and it works wonderfully. I save the masks I make with the stamp so I can use them again.

To colour with Distress ink, I smush the mini pads on my work surface (a plastic sheet) and then use a waterbrush to pick up the colour and lay it down on the image. For this project I chose to use the "no lines" technique. I stamped with Memento Desert Sand. The ink fades into the painting.

The painted image. I decided to give her a bit of background.

I put the mask over the painted image so I could stamp background elements.

Using Versamark and Wow White Pearl embossing powder I added a moon and sprinkling of stars behind the fairy.

A wash of Chipped Sapphire with a touch of Worn Lipstick for the night sky. The embossing resists the watercolour and floats the pearly moon and stars in the night sky.

When doing a wash, occasionally you get stay bits (or at least I do). I found this one on the inside of my card. So.. to cover it, I added some leaves to the inside, strategically placed.
